Dental Bridge

A dental bridge is one way to replace one or more missing teeth. Another choice to replace missing teeth is dental implants—click here to learn more about Dr. Hadgis' extensive experience with dental implants.

When created by a skilled cosmetic dentist like Dr. Hadgis, a well-done dental bridge can be virtually undetectable. As is so often the case, the key to success is in the details. A successful bridge will make it appear as if the false tooth is one of your natural teeth, and this is accomplished using a technique called "ovate pontic". Ovate pontic is used to create the illusion that the false tooth in the bridge is actually growing out of your gum. This technique is not part of standard dentistry coursework, but is required as part of the accreditation exam for cosmetic dentistry. Because Dr. Hadgis is an accredited member of the AACD, he is skilled in the ovate pontic technique.

Seeing is believing. Several of the patients in Dr. Hadgis' smile gallery have had bridges placed or replaced by Dr. Hadgis. To read their testimonials and see their beautiful smiles, click these links to see Debbie, Charles, and Mary Jo.

When a bridge might NOT be the best choice:

  • Back molars are better replaced with dental implants, as it can be difficult to anchor the bridge without teeth on both sides.
  • Bridges require grinding of the adjacent teeth. If those teeth are otherwise healthy (don't need crowns) this damages healthy teeth unnecessarily.

These before and after pictures are an example of how natural a bridge can look when done by an expert cosmetic dentist.
