Dental Implant vs. Bridge

Which should you choose?

Dr. Hadgis can help you make this important decision, considering all factors in your individual case. While there are general recommendations that are usually true for replacing missing teeth, Dr. Hadgis will consider all the details of your very unique situation.

Benefits of Dental Implants

  • Generally a more permanent solution than a bridge.
  • The adjacent teeth do not have to be altered.
  • Look and function just like your natural tooth
  • Stops bone re-absorption at site of the lost tooth

    Benefits of Bridge

  • Usually less expensive initially than an implant.
  • Any dentist can place a bridge—no specialized training required

A dental bridge might be perfectly fine if the teeth surrounding the missing tooth site are also in need of crowns. And if immediate cost is a prime concern, you can usually get a bridge for less than a dental implant. You should remember, though, that a dental implant done by Dr. Hadgis could last a lifetime, while a bridge will likely require replacement. Consider the total cost of the restoration over your lifetime when factoring in the costs of the two procedures.

If you choose a bridge, the restoration will involve three teeth, not one. If something goes wrong with one of the teeth supporting the bridge, the entire bridge will have to be replaced.
