What is neuromuscular dentistry?
Headaches, sinus problems and even dizziness can all be symptoms of a bite that is out of alignment—a condition that makes the muscles in the head and neck work extra hard to compensate.
Traditional dentistry can be considered one-dimensional in that it focuses solely on the teeth. Neuromuscular dentistry takes the second and third dimensions (muscles and jaw joints) into consideration, giving you a more complete solution to pain. As an LVI fellow, Dr. Hadgis is at the forefront of this groundbreaking approach.
Technology behind Neuromuscular Dentistry
- Digital Tomogram—used in place of x-rays to help determine your jaw's most natural position.
- TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation)—sends electrical signals to parts of the body to block pain signals.
- Computerized Myotronics K7 Jaw Tracking System—used with digital tomography to determine most natural position of your jaw.
If your bite shows signs of imbalance, Dr. Hadgis will use state-of-the-art technology like the TENS unit, computerized Myotronics K7 jaw tracking system and our digital tomography equipment to painlessly determine your jaw's most natural position and then devise a treatment plan to gently coax it into place.
